Security cameras that actually record when something happens

We design, install and support 4K camera systems for homes and businesses across Massachusetts and New England. Footage stays on a recorder in your building, you watch it from your phone, and there is no monthly subscription holding your video hostage.

The problem is almost never the camera

Every month someone calls us after a break-in, a hit-and-run in the parking lot, or a dispute with a customer — and the footage is not there. The cameras were on the wall the whole time. Here is what actually went wrong, in the order we find it.

The drive filled up in 2019

Consumer recorders quietly stop writing when the disk fails, and nothing tells the owner. We check drive health on every service visit and size the disk to the retention you need.

The camera was aimed at a roofline

A camera 14 feet up pointed across a lot gives you a silhouette, not a face. Identification happens at entry points, at head height, with the light behind the camera — not behind the subject.

Wi-Fi cameras on a saturated network

Battery cameras miss the first three seconds while they wake up — which is exactly the clip you needed. For anything that matters we run wired PoE: one cable, power and video, no dropouts.

Nobody had the password

The installer set it up, left, and never wrote it down. We hand over credentials in writing and walk you through exporting a clip before we leave the site.

What we install

We are an authorized Lorex dealer, which means we buy direct, register your warranty, and can get parts when something needs replacing. Lorex records locally to a recorder in your building and does not require a subscription to view or export footage — that single design choice is why we standardized on it.

Wired 4K PoE systems

The default for any business. IP cameras on Power over Ethernet feeding an on-site NVR. One cable per camera carries both power and video.

  • 4K resolution, true night vision
  • AI person and vehicle detection
  • NVR with 2–8TB local storage
  • Runs with the internet down

Wire-free and Wi-Fi cameras

For leased suites, detached garages, barns and anywhere a cable run is not realistic or not permitted by the landlord.

  • Battery or solar powered
  • No drilling through finished walls
  • Moves with you if you relocate
  • Best as a supplement, not the backbone

PTZ and floodlight cameras

Pan-tilt-zoom units cover a yard, lot or storage area from a single mount and can follow motion. Floodlight cameras deter before they record.

  • Auto-tracking on motion
  • Optical zoom for plates and faces
  • Motion-triggered lighting
  • Ideal for contractor yards

Video doorbells and access

Front-of-house coverage for shops, offices and homes — see and speak to whoever is at the door from anywhere.

  • Two-way talk
  • Package and person detection
  • Integrates with the same recorder
  • Smart lock options available

How an installation actually goes

No system is quoted over the phone. We walk the property first, because the price and the design both depend on things you cannot see from a photo — ceiling type, cable paths, where power sits, and where the light comes from at 6pm in January.

Site walkthrough

We walk your property with you and map entry points, blind spots, existing cabling, and where the recorder can live safely. Free, and you get the plan whether or not you hire us.

Written design and quote

Camera count, model, exact mounting positions, storage size and the retention window it buys you. One number, itemized. No surprise trip charges.

Installation day

Cabling run and concealed, cameras mounted and focused, recorder configured, phone apps set up on every device that needs one. Most 4–8 camera jobs are a single day.

Handover and training

You pull up a live view, scrub back to an event, and export a clip — yourself, with us standing there. Credentials handed over in writing. Then we stay reachable.

Recording law in Massachusetts — read this before you buy

This is where most installers stay quiet, and it is the part that can actually cost you.

Massachusetts is an all-party consent state for audio

Under the Massachusetts wiretap statute (M.G.L. c. 272 § 99), secretly recording a spoken conversation is a criminal offense — including on property you own. This trips up business owners who buy a camera kit online, plug it in with the microphone enabled by default, and record staff and customers without realizing it.

Video is treated differently from audio. Silent video surveillance of areas where people do not have a reasonable expectation of privacy — entrances, sales floors, parking lots, warehouses, loading docks — is generally permissible. Bathrooms, changing areas and break rooms are not.

Because of that, every business system we install ships with audio disabled by default and we provide notice signage for the entrances. If you want audio enabled, we will configure it — but talk to your attorney first, because the consent obligation sits with you as the property owner, not with us. We are installers, not lawyers, and this is not legal advice.

Who we install for

We came to camera work through IT, and most of our clients are the home-service and trade businesses we already support — so we understand the yard, the vans, and the tools that keep walking off.

Contractor yards and shops

Equipment, copper, trailers and fuel. Coverage on gates and the tool crib, with plate-readable resolution at the entrance.

Retail and restaurants

Register coverage, back door, walk-in and dumpster area — the four places where losses actually occur.

Warehouses and self-storage

Long runs, high mounts and low light. PTZ units cover wide floor area with fewer cameras.

Homes and multi-family

Driveway, front door, and package drop. Landlords covering common areas of two- and three-families across Worcester County.

Questions we get asked

Straight answers, including the ones about price.

How much does security camera installation cost in Massachusetts?

For most small businesses a 4-camera 4K wired system, professionally installed with a recorder and a year of storage, lands between $1,800 and $3,500 depending on cable runs and mounting height. An 8-camera system typically runs $3,000 to $6,000. The two things that move the price most are how far the cameras sit from the recorder and whether we need a lift. We quote after a walkthrough, so the number you get is the number you pay.

Are there monthly fees?

No. Lorex systems record to a hard drive inside the recorder on your property, and you view them from your phone at no charge. That is the main reason we install them instead of subscription cameras. Optional cloud backup exists if you want an off-site copy, but the system works fully without it.

Can I legally record audio?

Massachusetts is an all-party consent state under M.G.L. c. 272 § 99 — secretly recording a spoken conversation is a criminal offense, even on your own property. Silent video in non-private areas is treated differently and is generally permitted. We ship business systems with audio disabled by default and provide notice signage. Talk to your attorney before enabling audio.

How long do recordings last?

It depends on drive size, camera count and resolution. As a rough guide, a 2TB drive holds roughly 30 days of continuous 4K recording from four cameras. Most businesses want 30 to 60 days, so an incident reported late is still recoverable. We size the drive around that.

Do you work on systems you did not install?

Yes. A large part of our work is taking over someone else's system, or reviving cameras that quietly stopped recording months ago. We will tell you honestly whether the existing cameras are worth keeping or whether the money is better spent replacing them.

Can I watch from my phone?

Yes, on iPhone and Android and from any browser. We set it up and, before we leave, we sit with you until you have pulled up a live view and exported a clip yourself. A system you cannot operate is not a system.

What areas do you cover?

Throughout Massachusetts from our shop at 186 Main Street in Marlborough, plus southern New Hampshire, Rhode Island and northern Connecticut. Worcester County and MetroWest are same-week; farther sites get scheduled around travel.

The Lorex systems we install

These are the configurations we actually put in, not the whole catalogue. Every one records to a drive in your building with no subscription. Prices are Lorex MSRP for the hardware as of August 2026 — we quote installation separately after the walkthrough, because cable runs are what move the number.

Towns we install in

Each of these has its own page with what we actually run into in that town — building stock, lighting, cable paths and the jobs we get called for. We cover the rest of Massachusetts and southern New England too; these are simply the ones written up so far.
